Family Sailing Holidays Inspiration

Anyone who has ever been on a holiday with young children (or even those who are not so young!) knows that it is important to keep them occupied and interested throughout the entire holiday. Bored, screaming kids is a recipe for a sailing holiday disaster!

What to look for

There are a few key characteristics to look for when selecting a sailing holiday for children:

  • Shorter sailing legs
  • Interesting land based activities
  • General people and activity
  • Evening entertainment

With this in mind, here are a few locations that will appeal to the whole family.

Ionian Islands of Greece

The Ionian Islands are a fantastic sailing area for the whole family. With crystal clear waters, short hop sailing and great little towns, the Ionian is deservedly a favourite for British families. With light winds the Ionian also offers relatively gentle conditions in which to introduce your family to a sailing holiday. Click here for more about bareboat charters in the Ionian Islands...

Saronic Islands of Greece

The Saronic Islands are  another family friendly location  with short sailing legs and plenty to do when moored up at night. From the base in Athens, the closet island of Aegina is only 13NM away. This pattern continues throughout the holiday with the islands of Hydra, Spetses, and Poros all within a stones throw of each other. At night you can walk the car-free streets of Hydra or even see a play in 1000 year old amphitheatre. Magic. Click here to see more about a bareboat charter in the Saronic islands....

Bodrum, Turkey

Sailing around Bodrum has something for all the family. The city itself is a bustling port town with a huge amount going on. Just across the water is the Greek Island of Kos, with it's vibrant nightlife and hive of activity. Outside of these busy areas however are an amazing variety of ancient sites, quiet bays, and of course great sailing. Click here to see more about a bareboat charter in Bodrum...
