What Next After the Ionian!? Inspiration
Fantastic sailing areas to consider after the Ionian Islands.
The Ionian Islands of Greece are undoubtedly the most popular sailing destination for British sailors. With it's easy, short hop style of sailing it's no wonder that so many sailors from the UK have 'cut their teeth' in this area. There comes a time though that you may wish to 'spread your wings' a little and venture outside of this specific sailing area. Here are a few locations we feel would be a good next step for your sailing holiday after the Ionian Islands.
Saronic Islands of Greece
The Saronic Islands of Greece are actually the closet sailing area to the Ionian. Located south west of Athens, they offer slightly more wind, but retain the short hop focus of your sailing holiday. In fact many things remain the same as sailing in the Ionian, with quayside tavernas and of course the famous Greek welcome! Read more about sailing the Saronic Islands...
Kornati Islands of Croatia
The Kornati Islands of Croatia are also a nice change from the Ionian Islands. The wind here is slightly more challenging than the Ionian, but won't trouble a skipper with a few sailing holidays under their belt. The Kornatis retain the short hop sailing focus, and also tend to be more about small towns and quayside tavernas. Read more about sailing the Kornati Islands..
Dalmatian Islands of Croatia
The Dalmatian Islands of Croatia are also suitable for your first step away from the Ionian Islands. With more wind, it is more challenging than the Ionian but only enough to create real enjoyment from actually sailing the waters of the Adriatic. With legs that are as long or as short as you like, small quays and large marinas, cosmopolitan towns and small viallges, the Dalmatian Islands has it all.
