Welcome to Sailing Holidays in Bodrum

Bodrum lies on the Bodrum Peninsula near the northwest entrance to the Gulf of Gökova, and faces the Greek island of Kos. Bodrum is the home of sailing in Turkey and with its bustling nightlife and convenient location is the ideal starting point for a sailing holiday along the Aegean Coast of Turkey.

With plentiful sunshine, clear waters, beautiful climate, safe and abundant anchorages and friendly people, this coast offers much diversity. Not only does it have unspoiled areas rich in natural beauty, it also offers some of the most authentic cultural experiences in Europe. In many coastal settlements and villages it is still possible to observe local people going about their lives in traditional Turkish village fashion.

The deep waters of the Gulf of Gokova, on the southern shore of the Bodrum peninsula vary from the dark blue to pale turquoise, and the coastline is thickly wooded with in green. In the evening, the sea reflects the mountains silhouetted against the setting sun, and at night it shimmers with phosphorescence.

Archaeological ruins and historic sites also abound in Turkey's southern coastal regions. Many ruins and sites such as Cleopatra's lsland, Knidos, Caunos, Patara and Kekova can be seen directly from the sea.  Others such as Ephesus, Dydima, Miletos can easily be reached from anchorage points.

Weather and Winds

The climate of this region also contributes to the cruising excellence of this area with a season that stretches from April to October. June, July and August are of course the hottest months. May and September cooler and quieter and April and October still offering 8 to 9 hours of sunshine a day, with the opportunity for walking and exploring as well as cruising.

The winds in the Bodrum area prevail from the north, north-west and average during August approximately 11-16 knots (force 4 Beaufort). During early and late season the winds shift slightly to the west with fresher days also more prevalent.
