Booking Conditions
Flights, Outboards, Transfers, Skippers, End Cleaning, Security Deposit
Remember that these are all extras to chartering a bareboat and they must be paid at the base in the local currency (cash). We can arrange these for you but are always quoted separately. You can of course take care of the flights and transfers yourself, so as to save some cash, but we can help you out with these anyway.Skippers are to be paid at the base. They require their own cabin and food must be supplied for them for the entire holiday. This doesn't mean wining and dining them, rather ensuring their enough food on board or giving them an allowance to spend.
Typical end cleaning is €80 and outboard €80 per week. The security deposit varies depending on the size of yacht, please do ask about the specifics of this. Some of our partners offer a yacht security deposit waiver, which in many cases reduces your liability for damage to the yacht to zero (excluding dinghy and outboard). Please do feel free ask about this in specific detail.
Boarding Times
The official time for your yacht being ready and available to board is 17:00 on the first day of charter. Using the arrival information on your crew list we will endeavour to have the yacht ready upon your arrival. Please understand that this cannot be guaranteed as we need the time between charters to prepare the yacht for you. I bet you’d rather have a clean and ‘ship-shape’ yacht than having it an hour or two early covered in grime! If you are there early please do call ahead, which will avoid waiting around unnecessarily at the marina.
You need to checkout from the yacht at 09:00 on the day of departure which means being in the port the night before. Please liaise with the shore crew about this, but any extensions are very unlikely.
Fuel is Extra
As for a hire car, you pay for only the fuel you use. You will have a full tank of diesel on departure and you are to return it full. All of our yachts have diesel main engines; it is unlikely that in one week you will burn more than 60 litres (about £100), but this depends on how much motoring you do, the size of the yacht and the sea state you encounter. This is a variable extra that you must pay. When filling the fuel tank, please ensure that you are using the correct filling point – diesel in the water tank is no fun!Security Deposit
The Charterer is required and agrees to pay a security deposit, which represents the limit of the Charterers liability for any losses or damage to the yacht or its equipment. The assessment of any damage will be carried out by the Operator or their representative.
In some locations and with some charter owners, you will have the opportunity to pay a non -refundable security deposit. The deposit, or deposit waiver (where available), is payable locally.
Holding Tanks
We are strong advocates and campaigners for the compulsory installation and use of holding tanks in all yachts. While operational holding tanks are installed in all yachts owned by Sailing Holidays Ltd, the same cannot be guaranteed for our agency charter yachts. This is particularly the case in Greece, where holding tanks are not mandatory and therefore many charter companies have holding tanks installed, but they do not plumb them in.Booking Conditions
Bookings are made with Sailing Holidays Ltd trading as BareboatSailingHolidays.com (hereinafter called the Company) acting as agents for selected bareboat charter operators (the Operator) and must be made on the company booking form duly signed by the first named person on the form (the
Charterer). A booking deposit of 30% of the total holiday cost for boat only and 30% of the yacht cost plus all of the flights costs plus insurance premiums in full, or evidence of separate cover must accompany the booking form. Only when the booking form and payment have been received by the Company does a contract exist whereupon a booking confirmation invoice will be sent to the Charterer.
Travel Where travel arrangements have been arranged through Sailing Holidays Ltd, the Company reserves the right to use alternative flight and transfer arrangements should circumstances force a change.
Alterations
The Company reserves the right to withdraw or cancel the holiday or part thereof in the event of industrial action, civil disturbance, legal action, transportation delay, epidemic, earthquake, riot, war, terrorist attack, exceptionally bad weather or any other circumstances which are completely beyond our control.
If the holiday is cancelled within four weeks of the departure date due to any of these aforementioned circumstances, the Company will offer a comparable holiday if the same is available at the time, or a full refund less any reasonable expenses incurred by the Company in relation to the booking (see insurance cover regarding delays and cancellations). Once your holiday has started, the Company will not be liable for any loss, delay, inconvenience or extra expenses caused to the client for any reason beyond its control.
Any alternative holiday offered must be accepted within seven days of the offer being made otherwise a full refund will be forwarded automatically. The cancellation of a holiday should not take place less than 21 days prior to departure. Should a yacht not be available on time, the Operator will undertake to make alternative arrangements as set out in their charter contract.
The Company reserves the right to pass on administration fees charged for altering a booking, such as adding another person to the party, once final payment has been made. Any alteration should be made in writing.
All yacht descriptions are generalisations only. The specific yacht is allocated approximately a month before the charter and is subject to change depending on the booking schedule. The age of the yachts are banded into 'Prestige' (<3years), 'Class' (3-5 years and 'Economy' (>5 years) and the charter company reserves the right to change the yacht's age within these age bands.
Payment of your Holiday
A booking deposit of 30% of the total holiday cost for boat only and 40% for flight inclusive plus insurance premiums in full, or evidence of separate cover must accompany the booking form. The balance of the payment for the holiday must be received 10 weeks prior to the holiday start date. The signatory on the booking form guarantees payment on behalf of all those people featured on the form.
If the balance is not received by the due date, the Company reserves the right to cancel the holiday, retain the deposit and to levy cancellation charges as set out in the Operator’s charter contract. Bookings made within this period must be paid in full at the time of booking. All payments should be made by single cheque or credit card. Multiple payments for individual bookings may incur a £40 administration fee at the discretion of our London office. Please note that all credit card payments will incur a 2% facility fee.
Refunds
No refunds are given in respect of unused portions of air charter tickets or unused services of any kind. No Company representatives or agents are authorised to promise refunds.
Sailing Experience
Bookings are accepted based on the details provided by the Charterer with regard to previous sailing experience. Charterers must have at least a RYA accredited Day Skipper certificate or International Certificate of Competence, and in Croatia, a VHF license.
The original sailing certificate/document must be taken on holiday.
Neither the Company nor the Operator can accept responsibility for any loss suffered by the client as a result of insurers failing to indemnify due to incorrect details on the booking form. The Operator reserves the right to place a crew member on board if it considers it necessary in the interests of the safety of the yacht and its crew. The charge for this shall be borne by the Charterer.
Cancellations
Must be confirmed in writing to the Company by the Charterer (i.e. the lead name) together with the return of any valid travel documents. These must be received by the Company prior to the departure date. The date on which the Company receives written cancellation will be the date used to determine cancellation charges.
If the cancellation is made 45 or more days before the departure date, the Company reserves the right to keep 50% of the charter amount plus all flight costs, and if the cancellation is made within 45 days before the departure date, the Company reserves the right to make no refund of the total amount.
Complaints
Should you feel that you have cause for complaint at any time during your holiday, you must report the matter to the Operator's local representative without delay and preferably put in writing at the base. The charter company must be offered the opportunity to solve any issue while on charter with expediency. Any dispute arising from this complaint which cannot be resolved to the satisfaction of both parties shall be handled as set out in the Operator’s charter contract. Any complaints must be made in writing to the Company not more than 7 days following the end of the holiday.
Travel Arrangements
(Where flights have been arranged through the Company)
You MUST check-in at least 2 hours before departure. Should you arrive less than 2 hours prior to departure you may be refused admission to the aircraft and you will be responsible for your own travel arrangements to the holiday destination.
Yacht Insurance
All bareboat yachts managed and maintained by the Operator are insured as per their terms and conditions. The Company also carries tour operators’ liability insurance.
Security Deposit
The Charterer is required and agrees to pay a security deposit, which represents the limit of the Charterers liability for any losses or damage to the yacht or its equipment. The assessment of any damage will be carried out by the Operator or their representative.
In some locations and with some charter owners, you will have the opportunity to pay a non -refundable security deposit. The deposit, or deposit waiver (where available), is payable locally.
Holiday / Travel Insurance
The Company requires that all charterers take out personal travel / holiday insurance either as contained on the Sailing Holidays or Bareboat Sailing Holidays website at least an equivalent alternative as arranged by them. Clients residing outside the United Kingdom are advised that they must arrange their own travel insurance with equivalent cover to that contained on our Holiday Insurance page. The Company will not be held liable for loss or damage suffered by the client whether insured or uninsured.
When charterers take out their own holiday insurance policy, the Company will not be held liable. The client must ensure that any policy purchased has at least equivalent cover to that of Sailing Holidays Ltd (see details). It must cover holidays of this type and charterers’ own personal circumstances.
