The Best Family Sailing Destination is....
as voted by our clients....
Gocek and Fethiye, Turkey
Also voted the best sailing area in Europe for 2010, the bases of Gocek and Fethiye are an excellent sailing ground for families, with lots to do and see within very easy reach of the bases.
The Bay of Fethiye
Within the Bay of Fethiye itself are the Twelve Islands, which include Pancake island, Cleopatra's Baths, Red Island, Flat Island, Bedri Rahmi Bay, Tersane Bay, Hamam Bay, Cold Water Bay and many more. These are all extremely close together, and suitable for those families who wish to spend more time on holiday than sailing!
The swimming and snorkeling is fantastic, where else in the world can you snorkel above sunken towns covered in water many centuries ago.
West of Fethiye
Outside of the Bay of Fethiye the wider Lycian Coast, is wonderfully rich in heritage and natural beauty. In particular there is the area around Dalyan, which is reached by sailing west. Here you'll find Turtle Bay, where you can see endangered loggerhead turtles, you'll see ancient tombs cut into the rock faces, and you'll be able to visit and bath in natural mud baths.
South East of Fethiye
Sailing south east out of the bay of Fethiye you find Oludeniz, which was voted best European beach Destination in 2011 at the World Travel Awards. It's lovely. Further on is the unspolit beauty of Butterfly Bay, and beyond that the fantastic Kas and Kalkan.
Heading down that far allows families to break free of the Bay of Fethiye to find better sailing and to 'spread their wings' a little.
- Easy sailing with short-hop passages between islands, bays and harbours.
- The best beach destination in Europe, as voted in the World Travel Awards (Oludeniz)
- Excellent bases, which are 'grown-up' fishing villages
- Lots of swimming and snorkeling spots so plenty to do outside of actually sailing from place to place
